since 35 there is a whole new system of weapons For every weapon there is a smaller sizecategory version noted (In 30 there were only a few exotic weapons that had a halfling version but thats it) Now I've noticed we got the normal middlesized longsword which deals 1d8 damage and as an exotic weapon the bastard sword that deals 1d10 damage So, for the price of one feat, the greatsword equals the bastard sword at heroic, is 1 at paragon, and is 2 at epic But like you also stated, the bastard sword use could take that feat as well I think the root of my troubles is that at the basic stat level the bastard sword is smaller than the greatsword yet it does more damage when wielded in the same mannerThere's a collection of tiny little differences between the two Greatswords get to do their choice of piercing or slashing damage, while Bastard Swords are stuck only with slashing damage Bastard Swords are a one handed weapon that you can wield in two hands, which is a distinction that matters for the Shifting rune
